Nick’s Next Door

Nick's Next Door

If you’re looking for a date night spot in Los Gatos, you need to go to Nick’s Next Door! This my favorite New American restaurant that offers amazing food, service and wine — honestly this restaurant deserves to be Michelin recommended. It has been around since 2008, originally named Nick’s On Main, and then upgraded to Nick’s Next Door across the street, offering more real estate coupled with a lovely and inviting ambiance.

I remember the first time dining here, seeing Nick make his rounds in the most genuine way. He literally gave me advice on how to get the perfect bite from a bowl of steamed mussels. You can just feel that he cares about your experience and how food he puts out. I have been a regular customer and free marketing ever since.

Notable appetizers include:
Steak Tartare $15
Steamed Mussels $18
Chicken Liver Pate $18
Dungeness Crab “Martini” $17
Salmon Poke $14

These appetizers are classics that are honestly just done really well. I can always count on fresh ingredients with the perfect amount of seasoning. If I had to narrow down my favorites, it would be the steak tartare and mussels.

Moving onto entrees, my favorites would have to be the Seared Scallops ($32) and the Ribeye ($36). Their famous Pan Roasted Rib Eye Steak comes with a savory, utterly satisfying red wine demi glace, bone marrow, truffle fries, and some kind of crispy vegetable.

The Seared Scallops are actually usually advertised as a special of the day, rather than on the daily menu. However, even when it isn’t advertised, you can ask your server and they may be able to accommodate! This dish usually comes with four perfectly seared scallops, arugula, tomatoes, balsamic sauce and risotto. Dynamite!

The next time you’re looking to share a meal with a loved one or some great friends, give Nick’s Next Door a call for a reservation. In addition to a full bar and amazing wine list — you’ll experience a respectful staff, charming environment, where you are only encouraged to take your time and enjoy yourself. The amazing food and drinks here will cost average about $60 per person.
